You just don’t understand why people hate on vegans so much.

Is it really a bad thing that we care about animals, humans, and the planet all at the same time?

I can think of several reasons why people hate vegans off the top of my head:

This just makes me sad on so many levels. I am not a racist. I am mixed race myself, love many different cultures. Heck, I’ve actually traveled to different countries and lived with many different people. I am in no way shape or form a racist.

I know about being poor and having to eat. I live in a 2 bedroom apartment with 4 people and only one person has been able to get a job. We are constantly struggling to afford food. Yet two members of the household, myself included, are vegan. Does it put a strain on our budget? Not more so than the other members’ food, because we don’t get the expensive stuff. We actually get regular fruits and veggies most of the time, and usually not the organic stuff. And yes, sometimes fast food like del taco or taco bell. Del taco has 50 cent tacos for goodness sakes. That’s a big deal for us. Does that make us superior? No, we just eat what we want. Everyone in the house respects everyone’s lifestyles.

I have never shamed, trolled, bullied, or made fun of anyone with a medical condition. I know people with iron deficiency, lactose intolerance, peanut allergies, soy allergies, diabetes, cancer, bipolar disorder, depression, and tourettes. I myself suffer from some of these, and those aren’t all the illnesses out there. It’s nothing to make light of.

As for the holocaust and slavery talks, they are valid points when you consider all life equal. But never have I ever walked up to anyone and slammed them for eating meat. I have never spat in anyone’s face about how they are a nazi/slave driver. I’ve never screamed at anyone ‘MURDERER!’ While they were ordering a subway sandwich. But the opposite is true. I have been yelled at for not wanting to fo to KFC. I have been called a monster for missing school to take my pet chicken to the vet. I have been disowned by many friends for not partaking in their bbqs.

As for not shutting up, I’m not sure what you mean here. Do you mean in real life? Because when someone asks me a question, I will answer them honestly and as respectfully as possible. Yes, if someone approaches me with anger and hate I may respond in an angry way. But to be perfectly honest, that’s not normal for me. And everyone does that. But I don’t go around with a bullhorn shoving my beliefs down everyone’s throats. In fact, it just isn’t something I bring up with people. If you mean stop reblogging vegan things here on tumblr, well, we are allowed to blog what we want to blog on our own blogs. It doesn’t mean you have to look at it. You can block me, I won’t mind. I block some porn things because that’s not my cup of tea. But I don’t hate people for that. And yes I will respond to some things that my friends reblog, because they are my real life friends, and I am talking to them. But even in these, I will simply say something like I disagree. I never resort to name calling or flat-out hate. And my friends respect me for it. Do I get random hate for it? Yes, yes I do. And I will probably get hate for this too. That isn’t the thing that makes me sad though.

What really, honestly and truly makes me sad is how I saw this. I saw this on a blog that I love. That I love and respect. And now… I don’t know what to think. Is this their view of all vegans? Is this their view of me? I haven’t done anything to them, but I feel hurt by this. Surely generalizations like this cannot be true. But what does this say about people who reblogged this? This was in response to a very simple, non hate-filled post. In fact, it was full of love and sorrow. I am very saddened by this post. And by those who would reblog this. Please take the time to consider things you agree with. You may find that you are attacking an innocent group of people.

If you don’t know Alex, I suggest you read up on him. Because yeah, sure, any parrot can mimic, but Alex was one of the first to prove on many occasions that he understood the meaning behind the words he said.

With that in mind, just think about what he said for a sec. Alex had to understand on some level that death means leaving. That’s fucking mindblowing.

Alex also was shown to have the intelligence of a young child, anywhere from 3 to 5 years old. He could do basic addition and subtraction, and independently taught himself the concept of zero (something that most CIVILIZATIONS couldn’t do!) He had a vocabulary of thousands of words, some of which he made up himself, and had deep interpersonal bonds with many scientists and trainers, as well as other parrots.

Alex the parrot is basically the coolest bird ever.

Everyone always says you’ll stop caring about people who hurt you in time. That backstabbing friends will lose the ability to make you cry, and that eventually the day will come when you make new friends and just stop caring.

Today I realized that they’re right.

Course it always helps to have real friends to help you along the path to acceptance. So consider this a thank you, Skater-Troll. And you too Stacey-Saurus. You guys have never been anything but nice to me. And you guys have helped me realize that while it’s ok to be sad, happiness isn’t all that hard to find.

There is no inspection system for companies that label their eggs “free range”.

The popular myth that free range egg-laying hens enjoy fresh grass, bask in the sunlight, scratch the Earth, sit on their nests, and engage in other natural habits is often just that - a myth. In many commercial free range egg farms, hens are crowded inside windowless sheds with little more than a single, narrow exit leading to an enclosure, too small to accommodate all of the birds at once.

Both battery cage and free range egg hatcheries kill all male chicks shortly after birth. Since male chicks cannot lay eggs and are different breeds than those chickens raised for meat, they are of no use to the egg industry. Standard killing methods, even among free range producers, including grinding male chicks alive or throwing them into trash bags and leaving them to suffocate.

Whether kept in sheds or cages, laying hens, who can naturally live more than ten years, are considered “spent” when they are just one or two years old, and their productivity wanes. Rather than being retired, free range hens are slaughtered to make room for another shed of birds.

With no federal regulations overseeing the use of animal welfare claims of egg cartons, misleading or exaggerated claims are rampant. Consumers may be deceived by phrases such as “animal-friendly”, “organic”, or “naturally raised”, which can be found on cartons of eggs from caged hens.
